Extensive green roofs are characterised by the roof being covered with a thin layer of soil or growing medium mats, typically planted with succulent and moss species.
Thin layer of growing mediumThe most common type of plant used on an extensive green roof is sedum, so this type of green roof is often referred to as a sedum roof. Low maintenanceExtensive green roofs generally require little maintenance and offer great potential in terms of applications. They are light weight and do not require a heavy-duty load-bearing structure which is required by intensive green roofs. |
WindThe wind forces on the roof have to be taken into account on all roof structures. The sedum mats can only be laid in the warm season. Due to the low weight of the green roof layers, the membrane has to be calculated to withstand wind loads and may have to be fastened mechanically. |
FireThe membrane has to satisfy fire safety requirements without cover until the sedum mats are installed or in the event that the sedum mats are not fire rated. Our membrane is selfextinguishing and is classified according to EN 13501-5. Larger roofs require fire barriers. At upstands and penetrations the growing medium has to be separated by barriers in the form of concrete blocks, pebbles, etc., to prevent fire from spreading. Root resistanceProtan SE Titanium+ has been certified root resistant in accordance with the FLL test (Forschungsgesellschaft Landschaftsentwicklung Landschaftsbau) and does not require extra protection such as root barriers. |
