Site Segregation

Space is a premium on most construction sites so on-site segregation is difficult if not impossible on some sites. On sites where space is plentiful it can be beneficial to segregate waste using specific skips for specific wastes.

The benefits are:

Single waste stream skips are cheaper than a mixed waste skip.

Reuse opportunities will increase.

Recycling rates will increase.

Waste reporting will be far more accurate with less dependence on transfer facility reporting.

It encourages site personnel to segregate.

It is advisable to elect a site waste champion, trained in waste management. This would avoid the possibility of waste cross contamination which would negate any savings made from segregation.
