Description

To develop a dynamic and future-ready industrial landscape in Singapore, JTC takes the lead in driving innovation, sustainability and construction productivity in all our developments. Not only do we strive to develop innovative facilities, we endeavour to make sure that our developments are sustainable and environmentally friendly. To this end, we have formed partnerships with industry players, research institutes, and institutes of higher learning such as NUS, NTU and SUTD.

These can be divided into 3 categories:

Urban design & living (e.g., design of estates and open spaces to enhance livability and interaction opportunities, alternative urban transportation approaches),

Speed of implementation: The use of new materials, processes or technologies that lead to higher buildability and construction productivity for developments and land reclamation projects.

Land intensification & optimisation: The exploration of other ground-, sea- and air-based solutions that further expand and/or optimise the use of land and space.

Behavioural sciences: The work on trials leveraging design or incentives that can shape people's behaviour within the new urban, mixed-use estates comprising industrial, commercial, residential and leisure elements. These trials could focus on encouraging individuals to adopt positive traits (e.g., recycling as a way of life, sharing resources, etc.), incorporating one or more of the following aspects:

Distraction design, where the use of technology, design or standards help to mitigate potential disamenities;

User-centric design, where a multi-stage problem solving process, which requires designers to analyse and foresee how people are likely to use a product and to validate the assumptions of their behavior in real world tests; or

Persuasive design, where people's behaviours and attitudes can be changed or nudged in a positive way.

Interested parties may submit their proposal using one of the following ways:

Applied Research Proposals

Applied Research & Development (R&D) proposals may be submitted directly to the JTC- Industrial Infrastructure Innovation (I3) Research Centres for co-creation, joint research, collaboration and implementation. Primarily, the proposal shall align with the research thrusts determined by JTC and the respective research institutions at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

Alternatively, the proposal can be directed to JTC's Innovation Programme Office.

Open Innovation Call

Established in 2014, JTC's JTC Innovation Challenge aims to pilot new technologies and support the development of innovative solutions that enhance construction productivity, and building and estate operations. By defraying R&D costs and making our facilities available for test-bedding, JTC hopes to help private-sector enterprises, startups and research institutes accelerate the time-to-market of their novel solutions.

Green applications (e.g., ways to reduce emissions/carbon footprint, clean technology solutions and alternative /renewable energy uses) and

Smart solutions (e.g., leveraging technology to reduce reliance on manpower, improve productivity or analyse behavioural patterns).
