Prefabricated Straw Panels

Company profile

Strotec builds with prefab straw panels from EcoCoco n . These panels consist of 10% wood (from FSC forests) and 89% straw. They are finished with loam or natural plaster.

Straw is a residual product from agriculture and consists of the dry stalks of cereal crops. During growth, CO2 from the atmosphere is stored in those stems. Building with straw is therefore building with “preserved” CO2 . The CO2 remains withdrawn from the atmosphere, at least as long as the building exists. Nitrogen is also absorbed during the growth phase!

If a building is eventually demolished, straw, wood and clay are reused or returned to mother earth.

The primary energy required to produce straw panels is virtually nil.

The same straw has a very high insulating effect. This results in very energy-efficient or even energy-neutral buildings. Moreover, straw not only keeps a building warm in winter but also cool in summer due to good heat storage. Good for the environment and good for the wallet.

In addition, straw has a vapour-open structure. This means that the material 'breathes' and regulates the humidity in a building. And then a facade of straw with loam also ensures good acoustics.

This makes a building with a straw facade comfortable. You can't see it, but you can feel it.
